While certainly not new to the appstore, a worthy mention on our list of must-have apps is ‘Classics’ by Andrew Kaz & Phill Ryu. Classics is just that; pieces of litterature that we all ought to have sitting on our shelves at home. So if you haven’t read The “Iliad” or “Treasure Island” here’s a great chance to fill that cultural void. It all comes in what i consider to be one of the smoothest interfaces to grace the platform. The wooden shelves and the crunch of the paper as i flip through the pages is so authentic that i can almost taste the cognac and feel the crackling fireplace.
Worms
Newly arrived at the appstore is a familiar face; Team17 is back with their old wriggling gunslinger classic “Worms”. With your team of highly trained invertebrates you gun it out on random generated maps to the sound of explosions and cheap oneliners. This trajectory-themed turnbased war game is just as fun as the original and works like a charm on the iPhone. The pure nostalgia is worth 5 bucks alone! On top of that the implementation works really well and with the promise of upcoming 3.0 features (multiplayer?) this could easily become a hit adaptation of a childhood classic.
Rolando 2
It’s pretty hard to avoid this blockbuster title from NGMOCO. Building upon the great arcade premise of the prequil, Rolando 2 brings more rolling charms from the same shelf. If you liked the original Rolando, get this game now! If you haven’t tried the original Rolando, get this game now! With new and improved 2.5D graphics, a wonderful storyline, music that will have your feet tapping and humor that will have your face smiling. This game is such a high production value that you can’t miss it. Roll a slew of Rolando characters through more than 45 levels with increasing novelty and cleverness, it will have you captured for hours.
